My sister did this successfully and suggested I do the same when I go back to work. How did you do it, logistically? Using a shawl? Hands free pumping bra? How the heck do you take all the pump stuff off in the car without people seeing you? Was it more trouble than it was worth? Did it impair your driving?

No. I never had to do that because I used to work at a daycare when my oldest three sons were younger and I was able to nurse them when they got hungry (they went from breast to cup and never took a bottle) and now I am a licensed home daycare provider and I can nurse my two month old at home. But I would never try to pump in my car I am sure it would impair my driving and not be worth it.
I also don’t like driving and don’t like pumping (hurts more than actually breastfeeding) so I would never want to mix the two of them together.

i never did it but oe of my friends did. i’m not sure what method she used but she said it was the easiest time to do it. funny story though one day on her way home while she was pumping she was pulled over. as the cop was asking her questions she began turning bright red because she was dry. when the cop asked what was wrong and she told him she was pumping and had run out of milk he turned bright red too handed her back her stuff and said uh have a nice day

I never pumped while actually being the one driving, but I pumped in the car several times while someone else was driving. Since I had my hands free I was able to plug my pump into a lighter inverter and drape a blanket over my chest to prevent people from seeing something they didn’t want to see. The blanket (or shawl) would be the first thing on and last thing off so that no one actually had to see anything unreasonable.
If you’re wanting to actually pump while driving and don’t have the 10-15 minutes to wait, I suggest getting a hands free support for your pump. Otherwise it would just be too much to handle. Yes, I imagine it would impair your driving ability a bit since you’re going to want to be paying attention to how everything is going.
